Chingudi Art is webspace for the collective work of Seela Misra, a self-taught working artist: animator, musician, ceramicist, illustrator, & bread-maker in central Texas. As a kid she was small for her age and her Odia mother nicknamed her “Chingudi” (or “Ching” for short) which means Shrimp.

Seela’s artwork can be found in the tasting room of Crowded Barrel Whiskey Company, on musician Jamiee Harris’ release “The Congress House Sessions”, in homes across the country in the form of drawings, paintings, ceramic kitchenware, and handmade prints. She is also known for her stylized music videos for the likes of Jaimee Harris, Pat Byrne, Ali Holder, Christina Martin, Twang Twang Shockaboom, The Belle Sounds, Jeff Plankenhorn, Wilson Marks, and for her own music.

Seela is a student of late night instructional videos on YouTube, Sktchy’s 30 Portraits in 30 Days, Inktober, and pottery studios around Central Texas. Her committed daily sketchbook practice has been instrumental in developing skill, style, and confidence.

She is currently obsessed with Shino glazes, industrial decay, india ink, black underglaze, gouache, portraiture, rice paper, wheel-thrown tableware, Cone 10 BMix clay, Tina Berning, chickpeas, and rye flour. Seela lives in Austin, TX with her husband, little dog, and 6 year old sourdough starter named Boris.
