Large Shino Splash and Drip Vase
Approx 12"h x 6"w
Wheel-thrown and glazed by hand. This curvy vase features white Shino glaze with turquoise drips and splashes on high fired, porcelain/stoneware clay. Lovely speckles and clouds formed on the surface during final firing in the kiln due to trapped carbon (soot). This vase is tall and sturdy.
Shino glazes are distinctive in their surface effects that happen naturally during firing. Carbon trapping is one such beautiful reduction surface effect. As the name implies, the surfaces are characterized by variegated patterns of grey and black caused by carbon that gets trapped under the surface of a glaze or clay body during reduction firing.
One-of-a-kind piece. Continental US shipping includeda
