Shino Sky Mug
4.5”h x 3.5”w Holds a pint of liquid when filled to the top.
Wheel-thrown and glazed by hand. This mug features white Shino glaze with copper drips on high fired porcelain/stoneware clay. The layered glazes create crackle effects as well as carbon-trapped, smoke-like moments along the surface while the interior is undisturbed, pale shino. In some spots the pattern resembles branches against a winter sky.
Shino glazes are distinctive in their surface effects that happen naturally during firing. Carbon trapping is one such beautiful reduction surface effect. As the name implies, the surfaces are characterized by variegated patterns of grey and black caused by carbon that gets trapped under the surface of a glaze or clay body during reduction firing.
One-of-a-kind piece. Continental US shipping included.
